KNOT TYING RELAY
This event will require skill in knot tying and running. Six different types of knots are required.
PARTICIPANTS: 6 Pathfinders from each club. If a club has fewer than six members a Pathfinder may tie more than one knot. You can not use one child to tie three and one child to tie one knot. A Pathfinder may be excused if he/she has difficulty running or reasons expressed to the Camporee committee when registering a club.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT:
1. Five pieces of 1/4" sash cord 4' long. Supplied by Pathfinder Club
2. One 4" log 4' long. Supplied by the Camporee Committee.
PROCEDURE:
A team of 6 Pathfinders will line up single file. A log four feet long will be place 50 feet in front of the lead Pathfinder in each team. At the signal, the first Pathfinder of each team will run to the log and tie a Clove Hitch around the log. When the knot is tied, he runs back to the line and touches off the second in line, who runs forward and ties his rope to the rope of Pathfinder number 1 using a Sheet Bend. He then runs back and touches off the third in line, who ties his rope to that of Pathfinder number 2, using a Square Knot. He then runs back and touches off Pathfinder number 4, who ties his rope to Pathfinder number 3, using a Fisherman's Knot. Pathfiner number 4, returns, touches off Pathfinder number 5, who runs forward and ties a Sheep Shank in the rope of Pathfinder number 3, shortening the rope, and returns, touching off Pathfinder number 6. Pathfinder number 6 ties a rope around his waist, using a Bowline, and ties the rope of Pathfinder number 5 to his rope, using a Slippery Sheet Bend. He than pulls on the rope with his body, pulling the log back across the designated line. If a knot come loose, it must be re-tied by the Pathfinder who tied it.
Each Pathfinder must know the seven knots. The knots to be tied will be drawn at random before the event.

INDIAN DRAG RACE
This activity will feature the construction of an Indian type travois incorporating two types of lashing. (Diagonal and square) Clove hitch knots rather than timber hitch knots are to be used in the beginning of the lashing.
PARTICIPANTS: 4 Pathfinders from each club.
EQUIPMENT: Four pieces of 1/4" sash cord twelve feet long. Supplied by club.
Two poles 2"x8' long and two poles 2"x4'. Supplied by Camporee Committee.
PROCEDURE:
At starting signal Pathfinder number 1 and 2 begin lashing the 4' poles and the 8' poles. The lower cross pole is 1' from the bottom using a diagonal lashing, and the upper cross pole is 3' from the bottom using a square lashing. Upon completion the frame work will form a travois or drag carriage.
The lashing takes place 20' in front of the starting line.
Upon completion of lashing, Pathfinder number 1 and Pathfinder number 2 run back to starting line and tag Pathfinder number 3 and Pathfinder 4, who run to the travois.
Then Pathfinder number 3 takes position between poles farthest from cross poles -- takes a pole in each hand and stands.
Pathfinder number 4 sits on upper cross pole with feet on lower cross pole.
Pathfinder number 3 then drags the travois 30 feet to finish line.
Pathfinder number 4 must remain on the cross pole and all lashing intact until finish line is reached.
SCORING:
1st place 3 minutes 10 points
2nd place 4 minutes 8 points
3rd place 5 minutes 6 points

5 points for each correctly tired knot
Total points possible 40 points
BIBLE-NATURE FIELD TRIP
Participants:
Approximately two Pathfinders in a group with a Bible to use between them. There will be a list of Bible verses where the Pathfinders will have to find certain things from nature in each verse then they will also have to find the item mentioned on a field trip.
BALANCE BEAM EVENT
PARTICIPANTS: 3-5 Pathfinders
EQUIPMENT: 1 - 12ft 2X6 with tree braces, one at either end and one in the centre.
PROCEDURE: One pathfinder will mount the beam at the beginning and proceed through to the other end. If they fall off, the participant will step back one pace and remount the beam and continue one with the same requirements. When this pathfinder finishes their run the next in line will mount the beam and follow the same procedure.
If the group has only three or four members the previous entrants will do the beam until the group has completed five times total. Apparatus will be supplied on site When finished move to the next event.
LEWIS AND CLARKE EVENT
PARTICIPANTS: 3-4 Pathfinders
EQUIPMENT: 2 - 8ft lengths of 2 inches by 4 inches
PROCEDURE: First hole is drilled 2 inches from the front, the subsequent holes are drilled 22 inches on centre. The top holes will be 5/8ths inches. On the bottom side a hole drilled half way through the material with a hole large enough to accommodate a figure eight knot using half inch rope.
Each member will proceed to the 2X4’s as assigned by their leader, pick up rope, slip rope through small opening then tie a figure eight on bottom. Do this with both 2X4’s.
When completed draw ropes taunt, stand up with 2X4’s on either side, place feet on 2X4 behind your rope, each member will call out “ready”. Rear member will command “left, right, left” in sequence. Then proceed to the finish line 30 or 50 feet. All materials supplied for this event. Proceed to the next event.
KNOT TYING
PARTICIPANTS: 3-5 Pathfinders
EQUIPMENT: A three foot high hitching rail. 6 foot lengths of rope. Names of knots written on material, (paper, wood, etc.), placed in an enclosed container.
PROCEDURE: Knots to be tied are clove hitch, square, fisherman’s, sheep shank, bowline. Each group member will draw a name of a knot and tie it around the hitching post. (This is a random draw, no predetermined knot) If the group has less than 5 members, the first finished their knot will draw another until all five knots have been tied.
Ropes will be supplied for this event.
BLIND MAZE
PARTICIPANTS: 3 Pathfinders
EQUIPMENT: A 4 inch deep box with a maze built inside and handles on either end and a street hockey size ball.
PROCEDURE: Two members are blind folded after securing the handles. The ball is then placed at the beginning, the third member then gives directions as to which way to turn the maze so that the ball proceeds through the maze to the finish. All equipment will be supplied except for the blind folds.
ABC NATURE GAME
PARTICIPANTS: 1-5 Pathfinders
EQUIPMENT: 1 sheet of paper with a list of the alphabet from A-Z and a pencil (which you will be given).
PROCEDURE: What you are expected to do is find something in nature that starts with each corresponding letter(ex. P-parrot). The time limit will be determined by the presenter, usually one hour minimum to one day maximum).
REQUIREMENTS: No generic names are allowed for example (rock, mineral, bird flower etc.) It has to be the specific name or common name such as ( tamarack, buttercup, American robin etc.) The judges will make the final decision.
SCORING: If only one group has the name 3 points
Two groups with the name 2 points
More than two 1 point

PANCAKE MAKING
